Experience Bryce Canyon
Bryce Canyon National Park
Millions of years of wind and weather have eroded the limestone and sandstone of Bryce Canyon into strangely shaped pillars and spires, called hoodoos. Some resemble and are named after famous people, like Queen Victoria. The canyon was first called "Bowl-shaped Canyon Filled with Red Rocks Standing Up Like Men" by the local tribes.
Activities
Bryce Canyon is open year-round; summer activities range from hiking, backpacking and mountain biking (on paved roads only) to stargazing and guided hikes/walks. Strong boots with good traction are recommended for hiking in the canyons. There are more than 50 miles of hiking trails in the Bryce, ranging over many different elevations; hikers unaccustomed to the high elevation should start slowly and use caution. Visitors can also enjoy horseback riding, bird watching, photography, and camping. In winter, activities change to snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The visitor center is open year round, though hours are shortened; maps and guides are still available for hiking and backpacking.
